WAY more than a night at the movies.

After the unexpected popularity of his local pizza reviews, a pizza-obsessed vice principal from Coventry high school sets out to review 40 Rhode Island pizzerias in 30 days and fulfill his dream of becoming a professional writer.

This film, directed by Rhode Island native Kirk Benttinen, takes you on a journey through the kitchens and dining rooms of mom and pop pizzerias all across Rhode Island, following Tim's journey and celebrating, the stories, people, and recipes behind some of the best pizza in the country.

But it's more than a night out at the movies: it's a neighborhood celebration featuring surprise performances from local artists, a Q&A with the filmmaker and subjects, and more!

RI DOCS IS cooking.

RI Docs is a documentary series dedicated to capturing and preserving the unique voices of Rhode Islanders—highlighting educators, artists, small business owners, activists and community leaders who shape the state's identity.

This project ensures that these vital stories are documented, celebrated, and shared with future generations, reinforcing Rhode Island's cultural legacy.

Three terrific short docs are already out on PBS.

Next up: The Pizza Principal, a documentary about a pizza-obsessed high school vice principal with big ambitions in the littlest state.

gossip

“We’re making cinematic, professional-quality films about Rhode Islanders for Rhode Islanders,” says Benttinen. He sees “RI Docs as both a cultural preservation project and an economic engine, one capable of supporting local filmmakers while giving everyday Ocean State lives the care usually reserved for faraway subjects.” —RI Docs
